Bar Snack Recipe: This One's for the Homebodies

Turns out green onions were never just a garnish. Fry them and they out-crunch anything else on the table. It's basically the posh way to eat fried onions: light and crispy outside, tender and a little sweet in the middle. Dip them in your favorite sauce and good luck getting any of these to the couch.

INGREDIENTS

  • 8 green onion stalks
  • 1 bag Ms. Wong's Tempura Mix
  • ½ cup ice-cold water
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Directions

STEP 1: Heat the Oil
Pour 2 to 3 inches of vegetable oil into a deep pot, keeping the pot no more than halfway full. Heat the oil to 380°F.

STEP 2: Prep the Green Onions
Trim the roots from the green onions, cut each stalk in half, and pat the pieces dry.

STEP 3: Batter Up
Gently mix 1 bag Ms. Wong's Tempura Mix with ½ cup ice-cold water until just combined.

STEP 4: Fry Fearlessly
Dip each green onion piece in the batter and carefully place it in the 380°F oil. Fry for about 2 minutes, until golden and crispy. Work in batches so the oil stays hot.

STEP 5: Serve & Enjoy
Serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
