Tempura Apple Rings
When Apples Meet Tempura
Sometimes you want comfort food without spending hours in the kitchen. These tempura apple rings have all the warm cinnamon flavor of apple pie, with a light, crispy outside and tender apple in the middle. Add warm caramel and good luck stopping at one.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 to 3 crisp apples, peeled, cored, and sliced into ¼-inch rings
- 1 bag Ms. Wong's Tempura Mix
- ½ cup ice-cold water
- 60 ounces vegetable oil, for a 6-quart pot
- Store-bought cinnamon sugar seasoning
- Caramel sauce, for dipping
CINNAMON BUTTER MARINADE
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 5 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
Directions
STEP 1: Heat the Oil
Pour 2 to 3 inches of oil into a deep pot and heat it to 380°F.
STEP 2: Prep the Apples
Peel and core the apples, then slice them into ¼-inch rings.
⭐ Pro tip: Use a crisp apple variety. Skip Red Delicious because it gets too soft.
STEP 3: Coat and Chill
Melt the butter with the brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Toss the apple rings in the mixture, arrange them on a parchment-lined tray, and chill for 15 to 20 minutes.

STEP 4: Batter Up
Gently mix 1 bag Ms. Wong's Tempura Mix with ½ cup ice-cold water until just combined.
STEP 5: Fry Fearlessly
Coat each chilled apple ring in batter and carefully place it in the 380°F oil. Fry for about 90 seconds, until golden and crispy.
STEP 6: Serve & Enjoy
Let the rings cool briefly, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, and serve with warm caramel sauce.
